Alba Jewellery is all handmade by Jacqueline Dawson, in her garden workshop at home in Suffolk. Jacqueline works in recycled metals; brass, gold and silver, enjoying the fact that these metals have had previous lives and can now be appreciated for their natural raw beauty.Inspiration is taken from the natural world: plants from the local marshes, seaweeds, leaves, seeds and flowers, the sun, moon and stars, and bodies of water are all to be found in the collections.Observational sketches are first simplified, then worked up into paper maquettes before being formed from metal. Most pieces are textured using hammering as a finish - the tiny hammer marks bringing out the depth of colour in the metal as it catches the light. Using age-old techniques and simple hand tools, the pieces celebrate the beauty of nature, the uniqueness of the handmade, and the authenticity of raw metal.
